Shepherd’s Village Honors Founder Dr. Phyllis Alderman

Shepherd’s Village, a beacon of hope for single mother families based in Largo, FL, is honoring its founder, Dr. Phyllis Alderman, as she retires at the end of this year. Dr. Alderman's unwavering commitment and dedication to building a community that supports single mothers and their children have left an indelible mark on Pinellas County.

As a child of a single-parent family, Dr. Alderman understood the plight of single motherhood from an era when single parenting was not well understood. “There was nowhere a mother could turn, and finding housing was nearly impossible,” Alderman reflected. With just $60 in a bank account and a profound vision for ministry, Shepherd's Village emerged. Dr. Alderman's selfless efforts over the past thirty-two years have impacted countless lives by offering a fresh start to single-mother families.

Executive Director April McKnight stated, “Phyllis’s legacy is woven into everything we stand for at Shepherd’s Village. We owe our existence to her vision, leadership, and unwavering faith. Her legacy extends beyond the next generation as we strive to reach more single mothers and support them on their journey towards a confident future.”

In celebration of Dr. Alderman's legacy, Shepherd’s Village invited Dr. Alderman’s friends, family, and supporters to contribute to the legacy gift campaign this Christmas. The campaign aims to raise funds that will continue to make a lasting impact on generations to come.
